St Edmunds Trail Half Marathon, Marathon & Ultra-Marathon 2024

Ickworth National Trust provides the superb setting for our winter trail races. Ickworth NT is 2 miles from Bury St Edmund. We will be offering the choice of Half Marathon, Marathon and a 50km.

Ultra-Marathon race forms part of Positive Steps Grand Slam. The other races are the Peddars Way Ultra and the Norfolk 100km. All three events must be completed in any order in a 12 month period to be awarded the Grand Slam tankard.

Distance: Half-Marathon, Marathon & Ultra-Marathon (50km)

Suitable for: All abilities

Medals: All finishers will be awarded a bespoke medal.

Event Details

Start time: Ultra-Marathon and marathon 8.30am, Half Marathon 9:00am,

Entry details: Online entry only via Si entries

Results details: We will use chip timing at , and also may be manually recording your race number at checkpoints/finish for safety reasons. Please ensure your race number is clearly visible to marshals at all times. We will endeavour to check & publish results within 48 hours of the event finish.

Entry cost: Ultra-Marathon £36, Marathon £36, Half-Marathon £34 UKA affiliated (must quote UKA URN on entry), Non-UKA affiliated Ultra-Marathon £38, Marathon £38, Half-Marathon £36

Refunds: You will be entitled to a 60% refund if you are unable to take part, up until 6 weeks before the day of the race

Deferment: Sorry but we do not do deferrals

Transfers: You may transfer to another runner free of charge up to 6 weeks before the date of an event. Please log into Si entries and edit your entry using the substitute option.

Postponement: Should it be necessary to postpone the race due to no fault of Positive Steps Fitness and Wellbeing Ltd, we will reschedule the event to another date in the current year or in the following year. Participants will be given the option to transfer to the rescheduled event or to be given a voucher code of an equivalent value for a future event.

Race numbers: Participants to collect on the day at registration

Cut off: All participants must complete the event by 3:30pm

Refreshments: Checkpoints with water, squash

First aid: First-aiders will be present at the Start/Finish and along the course. If you develop medical problems, please alert the nearest marshal and prompt assistance will be provided

Friends/family: Supporters are most welcome at our events.

This is a one-lap course (half marathon) or two laps (marathon). It will be marked with YELLOW signs with black arrows.

The 50km Ultra runners will then complete a shorter lap marked with YELLOW signs with black arrows.

The course is largely off road initially, around the Ickworth estate on the all-weather track, before leaving the park and heading across towards Nowton using footpaths and a short road section. Where possible road crossings will be marshalled.

The course has not been measured by a UKA approved course measurer, therefore all distances are approximate.

Race Rules

Minimum age on race day: Ultra - 20, Marathon – 18, Half-Marathon - 17

No person (except a blind runner’s attendant) may accompany a competitor at any point on the course.

All competitors must compete on foot.

Dogs: England Athletics insurance does NOT allow dogs in races. It is with regret that no dogs will be allowed on this race.

The course is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Cut-off times: All participants must have finished by 3:30pm.

Race Numbers: a walker/runner other than yourself must not use your race number. It must not be cut/folder or mutilated in any way and must be fastened securely to the front of your vest or top. Please fill in the information on the reverse side including relevant medical information and contact numbers to aid race staff in the event of an emergency.

Mandatory kit - a list will be sent in your final info email. It will simply be the items we consider you will need to keep you safe on the course. You will always need to supply your own cup and please always consider weather conditions on the day when you get packing.
