Bury to Clare Challenge May 2024

A linear 18 mile run or walk, in support of St Nicholas Hospice Care from Bury St Edmunds to Clare. A route over the gently undulating countryside of West Suffolk.

The route will be marked. The challenge is to complete the challenge within 8 hrs.

All finishers will receive a medal to mark their achievement. The medal is based on artwork titled night and day by Surinder Wardboys which is displayed in the hospice chapel.

£5 from your entry will go to the hospice.

Suitable for: Anyone.

Event Details

Start time: 9:00am

Entry details: Entries are online via Si Entries, using the link on this page. If you have not used Si Entries previously you will need to create an account with before entering. Once you have entered and paid you will receive confirmation and other correspondence about the race via Si Entries. Initially this may go into your spam box. If you need to amend any details of your entry you can log into your account at anytime and edit your entry. If you misplace any emails about the race you can go to message history and retrieve all emails.

Results details: We will use gun time,and also manually recording your race number at checkpoints/finish for safety reasons. Please ensure your race number is clearly visible to marshals at all times. We will endeavour to check & publish results within 48 hours of the event finish.

Entry cost: UKA affiliated £24, Unaffiliated £26.

Refunds: You will be entitled to a 60% refund if you are unable to take part, up until 6 weeks before the day of the race

Deferment: Sorry but we do not do deferrals for events as this has a knock-on financial impact.

Transfers: You may transfer to another runner free of charge up to 6 weeks before the date of an event. Please log into Si entries and edit your entry using the substitute option.

Transport: Option to leave your car at the finish in Clare and get the coach back to Nowton Park in time for the start. Cost of coach £12 per person (book when you enter).

Postponement: Should it be necessary to postpone the race due to no fault of Positive Steps Fitness and Wellbeing Ltd, we will reschedule the event to another date in the current year or in the following year. Participants will be given the option to transfer to the rescheduled event or to be given a voucher code of an equivalent value for a future event.

Race numbers: To be collected on the day at registration

Cut off: All participants must complete the challenge by 5pm

Refreshments: Drinks & snacks will be provided at checkpoints.

First aid: First Aiders will be present at the start/finish and along the course. If you develop medical problems, please alert the nearest marshal and prompt assistance will be provided.

Friends/family: Spectators/supports are welcome

Race Rules

The race will be held under UK Athletics rules permit applied for.

Participants must be aged 18 or over to take part in this challenge.

Dogs – England Athletics insurance does NOT allow dogs in events. It is with regret that no dogs will be allowed on this event.
